Plant a tree for the Jubilee

Lakeside North Harbour marks The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee with tree planting

We planted 10 new trees as part of The Queen’s Green Canopy (QGC) initiative.

Created to mark The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, the QGC invites people across the country to ‘Plant a Tree for the Jubilee’ and celebrate Her Majesty’s 70 years of leadership in a sustainable way that enhances our environment for the next generation.

Ten of our occupiers each sponsored a Pyrus Chanticlear tree as part of the commemorative project. Sustainably sourced from a local supplier in Romsey, these ornamental pear trees produce bee-friendly blush to white flowers from Spring until Summer and will also provide pollen for the resident bees in the ten hives located here on site.

Businesses supporting the initiative also made donations totalling £500 to The Woodland Trust, the UK’s largest woodland conservation charity.

A landmark moment in British history, The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in February saw HM The Queen become the first British monarch to reach the milestone. As with Her Majesty’s previous Jubilees, official celebrations will be held in June.

Simon Bateman, asset manager at Lakeside North Harbour, commented:

“We feel very fortunate to be able to experience this incredible moment in British history.

“At Lakeside, we wanted to honour Her Majesty’s service to the nation and celebrate her Platinum Jubilee in a way that complimented our values of sustainability and wellbeing. The Queen’s Green Canopy initiative was the perfect way to mark the occasion while improving our environment.”

Lakeside’s 130-acre campus is unique for its immediate access to acres of blue and green space and abundance of wildlife and habitats within its grounds.

Bateman added: “We consider our grounds and immediate proximity to blue and green space to be one of our most important assets in terms of living our values, supporting employee health and wellbeing and creating workspaces fit for the future.”
